The Retreat

Join your hosts, Lauren Baldwin, @theknitterwriter, and Selma Incesulu, @selmaknits, for 3+ days and 3 nights of knitting and hiking at Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, New Mexico. Our retreat can accommodate 20 knitting hikers (or strolling knitters). You need not hike to join us. Ghost Ranch, a 21,000 acre education and retreat center in northern New Mexico, is nestled in an extraordinary landscape of multilayered sandstone cliffs and desert hills and mesas known as Georgia O’Keefe country, where the famous painter lived and painted.

Selma will teach a knitting class on modifying sweater patterns and guide us in upper body yoga stretches for knitters, and Lauren will lead optional daily hikes (easy and/or moderate) on the Ranch and in the Piedra Lumbre Valley or surrounding area. We also will enjoy relaxed knitting and social time.

The registration fee for the retreat is all-inclusive for three nights lodging, all meals from lunch on Tuesday through lunch on Friday, afternoon snacks and beverages, knitting class and guided hikes, and a swag bag of knitting treasures.

Our Vendors, Retreat Project, and Retreat Colorway

We are excited to offer the Ghost Ranch Cowl by Vortex Yarns of Taos, New Mexico as an optional retreat project. The cowl is a free pattern on the Vortex Yarns webpage. When you register for the retreat, you will have the option to order the Vortex yarn for the project. The printed pattern and the yarn will be waiting for you at the retreat so all who choose to knit the cowl can cast on together.

Zia Woolz will have a pop up shop at the retreat for your fiber shopping pleasure. Zia Woolz owner and dyer, Dagmar Byrd, is creating an exclusive retreat colorway in a merino fingering weight which will be included in your swag bag! This yarn is not the weight needed for knitting the Ghost Ranch cowl, but you can knit the cowl in this yarn with some pattern modifications you will learn from Selma!
